Prior to closing in the structure, the engine needed to be removed (required a crane). A hole was cut in the wheelhouse roof and the engine was lifted out along with the gearbox. The engine weighed approximately 2100 pounds and the gearbox another 700 pounds. A new engine will be smaller, weigh less than1000 pounds total, run quieter, smoother and more efficiently.
Tim N. – a naval architect – is coordinating the repower. More on that later … we are looking at Tier 3 common rail modern diesel engines with approx 120 HP.
