Clint and Asa did some work setting up for the hawse. We debated using a unique extending bow roller system fabricated by PT foundry. It is a work of art and is currently on order for installation on the wonderful classic yacht MV Faranda. In the end, because I will be single handing Nonchalant most of the time, we settled on using the existing anchor with a hawse as it is more “user friendly” … that is it can be fully dropped and lifted from the helm.

I think the hawse pipe solution looks better. In my case I would not be able to raise mine from the helm (solo) because the anchor spins on its way up and can bind on the hull before sliding into the hawse pipe. This can bend the spike bits of the anchor and/or dent the hull – even the metal plate that I have to protect the hull from the anchor. So I check the anchor orientation just before that could happen and use the pike pole to adjust the orientation as needed. This happens about 15% of the time.
There is probably a solution to this but this is the condition I have at the moment.
hmmmm… guess I won’t know until I bring it up! I am hoping to have a handheld remote with a chain counter to avoid switches on the deck (fewer penetrations).
