cruised from Egmont to Lund today. About 40 NM. Jervis inlet was 2 1/2 foot waves with whitecaps – nonchalant handles it with ease and was quite comfortable. Lots of spray over the bow, but no banging on waves. The run in Malaspina strait was calmer and by the time I reached Lund seas were rippled. Lund is a busy marina with traffic coming and going to Desolation Sound. There is a wonderful bakery (Nancy’s) and a restaurant on the wharf. There is a general store and laundry as well. There is a big rain predicted for Friday so there was a ready stream of boats getting out of dodge and heading south. The marina is full as well with boats rafted three across. I opted to stay out on the breakwater docks away from the hubbub. No power or water… but the water in Lund is not potable anyway (😳). Tomorrow I plan to go to Grace harbor and possibly stay there until Saturday (when the rains ease – 2 1/2 inches predicted). I am a bit anxious about the salon roof on Nonchalant being watertight. We did all we could – caulking and a sealant paint… we’ll see …

That is *a lot* of rafting.
Nonchalant will be 💯 waterproof – her roof is fibreglassed right? And it will be done right. Have faith in your shipwright. ❤️
Liz… all the teak decking has two layers of marine plywood beneath a fiberglass coating … then teak overlay. so fo’c’sle and side decking should be great. I do not know about the butterfly hatch and nicole did not finish the cover. The aft cockpit has no canvas … water drains in to the bilge. the wheelhouse roof is good – brand new and fiber glassed. The salon roof is the bog question mark. it leaked in PT during a modest rain. We painted and elastomeric covering and caulked like crazy.. but very unsure that it is watertight in an Atmospheric River category 4 which is predicted for Friday. Time will tell
Totally forgot about the butterfly hatch and cockpit – hope it all works out.
Fun hearing how she handles…
Stu… Nonchalant handles very well out at sea. She tracks straight, takes waves well – is smooth and comfortable. The auto pilot is amazing – it even follows a route without any input (vs just holding a course like Ananda).I am getting lots of practice landing and anchoring. She is more challenging than Ananda to handle in both circumstances … but manageable.
